Teen hacked to death
The Straits Times, November 1, 2010
A third year Republic Polytechnic, Darren Ng Wei Jie, 19 was murdered at Downtown East in Pasir Ris on Saturday, 31 October 2010. He was repeatedly hacked with chopper and beaten by a group of people, he died after 5 hours of rescue in the Changi General Hospirtal. It was believed that it all started with a "staring incident", the encounter got angry and started punching and slashing the victim, the victim then tried to flee by escaping into the indoor restaurant and shop, he left 500m trail of blood at the scene. The police had classified the case as murder. The suspect were 21-year-old Tang Jia Min, 20-year-old Ho Wui Ming and 19-year-old Chen Wei Zhen. If convicted of murder, they face the death.

After reading the article, I recalled some of the similar cases that had happened in the past which involves one party staring at another party leading to a fight. Nowadays, teenagers get offenced easily and like to resort to violent to solve their problem. However, I think that violent is not a way to resolve problems, using violent can lead to more problems like hatred that lead to revenge and fight back. I believe there at other ways which ought be more effective and peaceful to resolve a problem besides using violent. But frankly speaking, we should also not stare at someone, this may give them a discomfort feeling and lead to unnecessary problems.I also thought that we should also think twice before we do something, because a silly little action can lead to even bigger problem. However, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the victim's family, I thought that he shouldn't deserved that kind of ending as he's still young and had a great future ahead.
