Tsunami death toll hits 343

The latest death toll from the tsunami which stuck on Thursday, had rose to 343 and 338 are still missing. The tsunami came together with a volcannic eruption. The tsunami was triggered by a 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck 78 km west of one of the Mentawai islands, South Pagai. It had flattened several villages and a surf resort, 4,000 people had been displaced by the tsunami followed by the eruption of Mount Merapi, it erupted a day after the tsunami struck on remote islands in western Indonesia. Metro TV had showed the aftermath of the flattened villages with survivors combing through rumble for their belongings. The Authorities have been fighting to handle both disasters and had evacuated 40,000 villagers from the slope of Mount Merapi where many infrastructure had been turned into ashes.

It's a heartbreaking moment to read this article, having to know that our neighbouring country, Indonesia, had been struck by natural disasters again. The unexpected disaster had caused many deaths and damages, many survived but couldn't reunite with their love ones again. Many Indonesians living in Singapore are worried about their family members in Indonesia, and are eager to return home. I would like to send my condolences to those who are affected by the disaster. There may be a serious economic issues like starvation, people are homeless, increasing number of orphans so I think that the government and authorities should now stress on rendering aids to the victims and help them recover their lost as soon as possible so that they can carry with the lives. The other countries should also lend a helping hand to help, they can donate some sample food to Indonesia or even money to help to re-build the infrastructure that had been destroyed by the cruelty of the disasters.  If given the opportunity, I would also like to go to Indonesia as a volunteer to help in the affected regions.
