Rapist father sentenced to 11 years jail
The Straits Times, January 26, 2011
A 12 years old girl revealed that her father had raped her when she was 7 . The reason why she revealed the secret that she had kept for 5 years is because she was motivated by the story her english teracher share, about the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood" that illustrates the danger of talking to stranger during an english lesson. She then opened up the secret to her teacher in private. I was said that, on one morning in 2005, her father entered her room when she was sleeping and raped her. The father was charged on court and sentenced to 11 years of jail terms and 16 strokes of canning. A second charge of molesting her last year by touching her breast was taken into consideration during the sentencing.

I first came about this news when i was reading a chinese newspaper. In addition, It says that the father pleaded for a lighter sentence and claimed that it was a mistake that he had commited after drinking and he love his child.Futhermore, after the incident, he asked thbe poor girl not to tell anyone about it and ask her to take a shower and then brought her to school. I was digusted by what he had said, I don't believe what he says as I thought that he had already plan the whole thing, to use a innocent and pure child weakness and take advantage over her. Who he has done is beyond a father's love and he is totally a beast! Who would believe that he was drunk when he asked her child to take a shower and bring her to school right after the incident. I seriously pity the poor girl for encountering such unfortunate incident. Please put yourself in her shoe, and think what she might feel during that time. Fortunately, she had the courage to reveal the secret and stop the beast from harming her further. Imagine, she hadn't do that, she might think that there's no meaning in life and might just ende her live for her mishap.

Coughs, cold, fever at epidemic level
The Straits Times, January 20, 2011
There is unuasually a huge number of people failing ill lately with the symtoms like coughs, cold, fever, sore throats and diarrhoea. The number is large enough to classify as infections as an epidemic. Lately, polyclinics have saw more that 20,000 patients with the symtoms, this shows that the infections has been spreading rapidly around the community.
Last week, 18,377 patients turned up at polyclinics with Acute Respiratory Infections , a term used to cover a range of infections such as the common cold, influenza, bronchitis and pneumonia. This is almost 1,000 cases more a day than the norm. when the the cases of the ARI top 17,032 a week at polyclinics, it would be serious enough to be classified as an epidemic. And now, the number of cases are still rising.

After reading this article, then I'd realise that there are quite a number of people failing sick lately and felt the seriousness in this issue. It had also reminded me of the previous incidents- SARS and H1N1. During those time, I recalled that schools provide thermometers and conduct temperature taking exercise at least twice daily, some school even go to the extend of calling off lesson and conduct e-learning at home. Everyone is very tense and sensitive in the issue, people do not dare to take public transports and  even step out of the house as they scare that they might get infected.

After going through so much, I believe that everyone should  be experience and know what to do and what precautions to take. We should be responsible for our own health and keep ourself healthy at all time. We should also have social awareness- if you know you are not feeling well, do not go school or your work place, immediately visit a doctor and receive treatment as soon as possible. Lastly, I hope that, those who are ill to get well soon. God Bless...

St Nicholas has top O-level student, 3rd-year running
The Straits Times, January 10, 2011
This article is about the releasing of O-level results and the top scorer, Chia Pei Yun scored 10 A1s. She come from St Nicholas Girls' school which had produced 3 top scorer in the the past 3 years in a row. The overall performance for the 2010 cohort had outdo the pervious years with a wonderful result of 99.8 percent of the cohort with at least one O-level passess and 94.9 percent with three or more O-level passes.

After reading this article, I felt that O-level graduates are getting smarter and smarter and more hardworking over the year. This can be credited to the school and family of the candidates, as they had be taught well. This also means that they are getting more competitive as in the future, good scores will be a common thing. People will strive higher and better for a place in their desired schools and courses, this also help raise the education standards in Singapore. However, there will be problems like more and more students getting stressed by their result but neglected their moral values. So, school should not emphasize more on the student's study perfromance but should also have a good balance weightage of moral education, and hence producing an all-rounded scholar.

Ghostly taxi found in Choa Chu Kang
The Straits Times, January 5, 2011
I had come across this article from a chinese news paper and was curious about it so I did some research on this article on Straits Times. A STOMPer had came across this taxi whereby the inside is decorated by "spooky" figurings and photos for example, photo of ddead person, and had scared many passengers that hailed the taxi. what make her feel more frighten about it is that she hailed the taxi at a cemetery area in Choa Chu Kang which is the only operating cemetery in Singapore. As witnessed, the taxi is flooded with  scary figurings and photos in the front and back seats. The driver still challenged whether the she is dare to take a ride on the taxi. She said that the taxi looks "chilly enough" without turning on the air-conditional.

After reading the article, I felt that the taxi driver's action is seriously ridiculous. Who would be willing to seat in this kind of taxi? futhermore, it was hailed at the most eerie place. I did a futher research and found out that the driver's license had been suspended before by the company due to similar issue. But the situation is different now, as the taxi driver is self-employed. I felt that the Land Transport Authority should do something about it to ease the tension as people now fear to encounter such taxi.

iPhone app leads to arrest
The Straits Times. November 7, 2010
The Police had napped a serial thief through an iphone application called 'Find my iphone'. The application which allows owners to track the physial location of their iphone had helped the Police trace the suspect and eventually arrest him. The victim's iphone was snatched by the suspect behind her back from her hand. The victim then reported the case to the Police, the application was used to tracked down the suspect. The suspect was tracked and arrested on November 6. It was believe that he is responsible for few other theft cases in various areas like Tiong Bahru and Kim Tian estates. The suspect, a 18 year old malaysain will be charged on court on November 8.

I believe things happen for a reason, many people nowadays like to hold their valuable on their hand when they are walking on the streets. This is a very bad habit, as it can attract people's attention especially the theifs therefore, it is partly the victim's fault to not keep her valuables safely. As for the suspect, I am totally annoyed by his action, he should have stole the victim's iphone. If I really want something badly I will save up and buy it and I will not resort to theft. He had just ruined his own bright future as he is only 18 this year. What a pity...

Public service beyond 62
The Straits Times, December 1, 2010
From 2011 July onwards, those employees who are at the age of 62 is offered opportunity to stay on the career until at least 65. The move implemented re-employment guildlines for 15 ministries and over 50 statutory boards, the Public Service Division will be kicked in 6 months ahead of when the new law take effect, as the largest employers in the country it will set an example to adopt re-employment practices. PSD accounts 4 percent of Singapore's strong workforce. The Director of PSD said that the company would help their older officer to remain economically productive and meaningful enagaged in their golden years, it will also continue to benefit from the wealth of instituitional knowledge and experience that the older officers bring with them.

After reading this article, I am really glad for those senior officers that had reached their retirement age, they will be able to work for a longer period. This benefit those low income families as they do not need to worry about their financial condition, this also benefit those who are really passionate about their jobs and are willing to benefit their company with their wisdom of knowledge and experience as some of them may feel that its a pity to stay and home after they retire. For the company, it is also an advantage to them as they will gain more loyalty and more senior officers will be willing to work hard given the opportunity. I think that the rest of the employee should follow suit and give the senior officer an opportunity to benefit the company with the experience and knowledge they have that many other do not. I am sure given that kind of opportunity, these senior would work extra hard for their respective company,

North Korean artillery strike alarms world powers
Channelnewsasia, November 24, 2010
North Korea attacked South Korea and killed two marines in one of the most serious border incidents since the 1950-1953 war, causing US President Barack Obama to wake up before dawn as there may be fear of the return of full-scale conflict. US previously vowed that no military action and US forces had been deployed at the region. Pentagon spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan told the reporters that, they will still monitor the situation and talk with their allies Pentagon spokesman adding that Washington was "mindful" of which actions might exacerbate tensions on the Korean peninsula.A dozens of shells struck, setting homes ablaze, South Korean troops fired back with cannon and the government convened in an underground war room and scrambled air force jets.

Yet another conflict, from my understanding, North korea is a less developed country itself, I thought the citizens there worked very hard however, their hard-earned money is always contributed to the weapons, gun powders and shells to attacked its neighbouring country. These money shouldn't be spent in this ways, they should use their citizen hard-eared money to develop or invest on something else to build the country's economy and to get away from poverty. I don't see the need to invest the money on military weapons to prove that your country is strong and the your citizens behind is suffering, this only show the weakest of the country.I believe they are many peaceful solutions to resolve problems rather than consulting to violent right? Therefore, I hope to see a peaceful and stable Korea peninsula in the near future.
